Lollapalooza blew my mind.
First, the whole trip to Chicago was amazing. The first day, my dad and I went to the Museum of Science and Industry for most of the day, and ended it with a White Sox/Yankees game. The museum was unbelievable. My favorite was the U-505 exhibit. I am so fascinated by the World War II era, so it was so awesome to see an actual German sub in person. We also spent a large amount of time in the Body Worlds exhibit (if you don't know what that is,
www.bodyworlds.com/en.html). It was so incredibly fascinating, but also completely eerie at the same time. But as an athlete it was so awesome to see real musculatory systems right in front of me.
The White Sox/Yankees game was really awesome, too! I'd never been to a baseball game before, so it was really exciting to see such famous teams play!
The next day we rode the 'L' into downtown and went to the Sky Tower in Willis Tower. IT WAS AWESOME. I was able to spot the Music Unlimited stage that Muse would be playing at the next day.
After, we went to the Art Museum. All I can say is, I could have spent days in there. It was unreal. But unfortunately we only could stay a few hours, and I know we only saw a piece of the art there. Then my parents and I just walked around the downtown lakeshore walk. It was heaven.
Well this leads to Friday… dun, dun, dun, duuuuun
My mom and I (yes, my mom – she's a Muse fan too) got to Grant Park about 10:00AM, which was an hour before the gates opened. We saw a crowd standing near the entrance, and of course, they were there to make barrier for Muse. At about 10:30AM, one of the main security guys let us out onto the bridge that went to the park, and I was able to make it (without cheating, might I add) to the front of the lines. Every Muser there was ready to sprint through the three gate checkpoints: bag check, ticket check, and ticket scan. I was one of the first few through, and man, when I saw open space in front of me, I started sprinting. I had a drawstring backpack on my back and my camera over my shoulder, and it was pretty hard to run with, but I managed to out-run most everyone headed for the stage. A person in front of me had face planted going down a slightly eroded hill, so that made me basically the third person in the field. I made center stage barrier, and then sat down to catch my breath from the 3½ block sprint. Then we all waited an hour before the first band played. All I have to say is: Musers are awesome.
12:45PM: The Vaccines – pretty good live band. I enjoyed a few of their songs.
1:30PM: Delta Spirit – also, pretty good live band.
4:00PM: White Lies – loved every minute of it! So happy I could hear them live, though I wish they could have played longer! One hour wasn't enough time… and I didn't get to hear E.S.T.
But they were awesome! Can't wait until they come back to the states! (and next time I'LL be the one going home with a drum stick! Yes, I almost caught one, but the security guy said the girl next to me had more of it than I did grr)
6:00PM: A Perfect Circle – longest freaking hour and a half of my life. It sounded like they played one massive jam that never changed the whole time. Practically fell asleep on the barrier.
8:15PM: MUSE –
FINALLY! I thought this hour would never come! I really don't even have to add a description here. IT WAS
MUSE! And Citizen Erased pretty much sums up the epicness we all witnessed.
CITIZEN ERASEDAhhhh, I want to go back!
Cheers!
